KalMont Kennels Pembroke Welsh Corgis
Set in the beautiful Flathead Valley surrounded by the majestic Rocky Mountains!
Although I am fairly new to the world of breeding purebred dogs my fascination started many years ago. When I was a little girl we had one miniature Dachshund. After many years of having an avid interest and studying dogs, my parents allowed me to adopt my first dog. We went to the local animal shelter. I knew the instant I saw her she was the perfect one for me. My mom was a little shocked to see that I decided on a Great Pyrenees/black Lab. At 6 months she was huge...especially her paws! But, she came home with us anyway. Her name is Shay. At first she was a bit of a training challenge! But she soon became my best friend (besides my cat, Marco).

After we got through the rough start with Shay I knew that I wanted dogs to be a bigger part of my life. I considered several options with that goal in mind, but soon decided that breeding and showing is where my heart is. Then all I had to do was decided what breed was best for my lifestyle! Since I was about two years old I have love lots of different breeds of dogs so choosing just one was a hard task! Believe it or not, Corgis were not actually on my original list of breeds that I love! But after careful consideration of what I was looking for in a dog and LOTS! of research I decided that Corgis were - hands down - the best breed for me. That is still probably the best decision I have made in my life - to date. Corgis are truly wonderful dogs and each one has added so much to my life! Darby - 4 months Maggie
So, after choosing Corgis, then came more research and a lot of time looking for the "perfect puppy." We brought our first puppy, "Darby" home in 2004. And even though she was an irresistibly sweet, spunky ball of fluff it didn't take long to see that she was not what we were looking for to start our program with. Darby is now happily living with Holly in Seattle, WA.

Later in 2004 I purchased Belle from a breeder in Minnesota. Several months later, Maggie followed (from the same breeder). Both girls were adults when they joined our family. Maggie had two litters here with us and is now retired and is my parents' dog. Click here to see some of Maggie's puppies. And of course, Belle is still here at KalMont!
Belle started the foundation of our breeding program. She has given us 4 beautiful litters - to date. And we have kept some of her daughters here to continue her line. After Belle, my next addition was my sweet Alyssa. I bought her as my show dog and was very hopeful for her career. Alyssa had started competing in the show ring and was having fun and doing very well when we got the bad news that she had hip dysplasia. We retested twice, but the news did not change. After a year from receiving the news, I finally decided to place Alyssa in a pet home. Even though we couldn't seem to get it here for her, I hope she has her happily ever after in her new home.

We now have new lines in our program and will be focusing on getting Indie, Fergus, Kelsey & Becky out in the show ring as much as possible in 2008 with hope of sending Fergus out with a handler.
Here at KalMont we strive to produce high quality pets and show dogs with health as one of our first priorities. All of our dogs are OFA'd and CERF'd before breeding. Please check out each dog's page for more info on their health clearances.
KalMont Kennels would like to thank all the staff at Countryside Animal Clinic which has been my main care provider since I adopted Shay. They have offered exceptional care and I consider them as friends. To my many clients all over North America, thank you for your support. Almost all of you have kept in touch and several have returned to adopt a second puppy...many of you are good friends. I really do appreciate every update!
I would also like to thank Sherri (Belle and Alyssa's breeder). Even though we do not always see eye to eye, she did give me a lot of time and advice when I was first starting out. I learned a lot...Thank you. And now thank you to Karen Traa of Ultraa Kennel in Canada who has been a more recent source of advice. I am glad to be able to learn from one of the best!
And, last but not least, I would like to thank my parents. I would not be were I am now if my parents had not taught me to persevere and then been there for me every step of the way to get started. A special thanks to my Dad who spent countless hours building fences, dog houses, etc for me.
